Ria Hejib, CMHC Candidate
Clinical Mental Health Counseling Graduate Student
Ria holds a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Psychology and is currently a second-year graduate
student at the University of New Haven pursuing a degree in Clinical Mental Health
Counseling. Ria believes that the therapeutic alliance between a therapist and a client forms the core of therapy and has immense healing power. She strives to create a safe space for clients to be their authentic selves without any fear of judgement.
Ria is passionate about exploring early attachment styles and parent-child relationship in
conceptualizing client’s sense of self and their interactions with the world. Ria takes on a
client-centered approach as she believes that clients should have autonomy over their own
treatment. She likes to integrate behavioral approaches like CBT as it allows for greater
insight and collaboration. Additionally, Ria likes to take on the role of a peer or a friend whenworking with children to be able to truly empathize and to be more relatable while also being mindful of boundaries.
Ria has grown up playing board games throughout her childhood and loves to integrate that
within therapy with children to make the therapeutic process fun and interactive. Ria believes
in the strength of creative interventions and enjoys canvas painting and dancing. Some of her other hobbies include hiking to catch sunsets, car drives with her favourite Spotify playlist and traveling.
