Shelby DeLuna, MA Art Therapy, CMHC

Clinical Mental Health  Counselor, Art Therapist

As a Clinical Mental Health Counselor with a Specialization in Art Therapy, Shelby de Luna has assisted children, adolescents, and adults with physical, mental, and emotional/behavioral disorders for fifteen years. Her most consistent career in mental health was at a residential, as an art therapist and clinical counselor for adolescent juvenile detention boys that are wards of the state and have mental health/behavioral disabilities.  She has previous work experience in different psychiatric inpatient hospitals as an art therapist and mental health specialist for the acute adult unit and adolescent unit, specializing in group therapy for mood disorders.

She believes creative and therapeutic activities aid in the welfare of patients, and as an art therapy graduate from Lesley University, she strives to advocate for awareness in mental health and freedom in self-expression, which she believes can help people resolve problems, as well as develop and manage their behaviors and feelings. She attained a Bachelors in Arts Cum Laude, with an art therapy major and focus in psychology.

Her favorite quote is by Sigmund Freud, “From error to error one discovers the entire truth.”  She hopes to bring color to people, who are in a time of darkness and inspire them to find their form of self-expression, and a silver-lining during their hardships. She promotes that exploring the underlying messages that are communicated through art can help bring understanding to repressed emotion. I wish to bring light to those who suffer from mental health, and assure them that illness can be treated with therapy, self-awareness, education, hard work, determination, and an outlet in art.
